What?
Created in 1985, the association brings together major cities and metropolitan regions from all over the world.
Since 2004, Metropolis is the Metropolitan Section of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). It also an association with representation across the world and is recognized as a leading organization by the UN and other international forums.
The major challenge of the association is to promote the sustainable urban development of metropolitan regions in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens.
Who?
Any local, metropolitan and regional authority of more than a million inhabitants or the capital cities of nation states can apply for Metropolis' membership.
Why?
Metropolis facilitates the exchange of information among members and partners with the framework of the Standing Commissions, Congresses, theme-based meeting and the training activities organized by the Metropolis International Institute in Montreal.
Do you want to exchange and transfer experiences and expertise with other cities from all over the world?
Do you want your city to be represented in international forums?

How?
Any local authority or other organization wishing to apply for Metropolis membership should complete the relevant application forms, and return it to Metropolis Secretariat General in Barcelona.
All applications for Metropolis membership are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
