Metropolis turns 25 this year and the anniversary is set to coincide with the holding of the Board of Directors Meeting in Barcelona, the site of the Association's Secretariat-General. From 5 to 8 October 2010 Barcelona will gather together politicians, technicians and experts in the metropolitan management of large cities from around the world.

As part of the Board of Directors, Metropolis will host the Founding General Assembly of the "Global Fund for Cities Development" and the meetings of two Metropolis Standing Commissions: Commission 2 on "Urban Growth Management" and Commission 3 on "Integrated Urban Governance". Members will also be invited to attend the "Council of Cities for innovation", an initiative of the City of Barcelona to foster innovation in cities.

Municipal leaders from over 100 of the Association's member cities shall be invited to attend the event to exchange experiences and celebrate the 25^th anniversary of Metropolis in the incomparable setting afforded by the city of Barcelona.
