1st Commission 2 meeting (New Delhi, 3-5 December)

The first meeting of the Metropolis Commission 2: Managing Urban Growth, was held during 3-5 December 2009, in conjunction with the Urban Mobility India 2009 conference, in New Delhi.

Led by Melbourne and Cairo, Commission 2 aims to explore the issues of rapid urbanisations and liveability of cities: what makes cities liveable to their inhabitants and attractive to investors; and what governments are doing (or should do) to protect, promote and enhance the liveability and competitiveness of cities. As part of the investigation the Commission is addressing the issues of essential infrastructure, competitiveness of cities, inequities and social inclusion/exclusion, as well as the role of governments and governance in meeting those challenges.
