Launching meeting of the commission 5: "Partnership for Urban Innovation". Barcelona, 15-16 June 2009

The launching meeting of the Commission 5: Partnership for Urban Innovation was held in Barcelona from the 15 to 16 June 2009 and counted on the participation of 36 delegates from Metropolis cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris (Ile-de-France) and Porto Alegre. The event had a high participation of private companies such as CISCO, AECOM, INEC, Abertis and Santa&Cole who are engaged in fostering innovation in cities. Delegates also had the opportunity to attend the World Summit for Innovation – HIT Barcelona, congress that gathered more than 2000 experts in innovation from the public and the private sector.
The two days of intensive and participative brainstorming session, was able to set a 3 year plan for the Commission. This plan sets that group should tackle innovation in four different axes: Collaborative Citizens - Social networking; Social Services; Municipal Management of Services and Environment, mobility and energy.
Other objectives achieved by the meeting was to help governments and their external partners or stakeholders in identifying the way innovation is lead, managed and implemented in cities and to help the network in scaling up and replicating worldwide successful innovations in cities.
