Metropolitan Regions Conference, Sao Paulo –7 to 9 April 2008
Sao Paulo, the biggest city in South America, will host the first Metropolitan Regions Conference from 7 to 9 April 2008. This meeting, first suggested by Jean-Paul Huchon, President of Metropolis and President of the Ile-de-France Region, and;jointly organized by the Government of the State of Sao Paulo and the World Association of Major Metropolises (Metropolis), will feature the participation of leading city managers from across Latin America, such as the mayors of Bogota, Buenos Aires, Lima, Medellin, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile and Sao Paulo, among others, and will be open to members of the other world regions.;
José Serra, Vice President of Metropolis and Governor of the State of Sao Paulo, will chair the conference.
The discussion topics chosen for the Metropolitan Regions Conference in Sao Paulo are politics and governance, economic and social sustainability, transport and the environment, and violence. All of these management spheres will be discussed by the metropolitan leaders attending the conference. The program will also include presentations on the city strategies of Paris and London and a closing session on urban development and social inclusion by Jaime Lerner, former mayor of Curitiba.
